Ashley Stevens, a Criminal Justice junior, works part-time at the gym. “I like being able to interact with the students,” she said.

On campus employment is a great opportunity for students to learn about working in an office setting while working towards their degree.

Employment opportunities are available to all students. Positions range from library staff to assistants in one of Macon State College’s various schools.

Like a regular job, students employed on campus are paid hourly and can work up to a maximum of 19.5 hours a week. The limit in work hours allows students to have enough time for their classes and studies.

Ashley Stevens, a Criminal Justice junior, expressed very few disappointments associated with her job. Whenever she isn’t busy carrying out her job’s responsibilities, she can spend time on her homework.

Along with the professors and other Macon State College staff, students contribute to the success of Macon State. Working behind the scenes, student employees help students and professors get what they need to get through the semester. They answer phones, make copies of handouts, assist students in need of information and help keep the college running smoothly.

For students who want to be a student worker, the job-hunting process begins in the Career Center. There the friendly staff will help students
fill out the necessary paperwork.Once in the system, candidates are automatically considered for any on campus jobs when they become available.

“My job in the bookstore is the greatest,” said Kevin Bryant,
an Information Technology sophomore. “The hours are flexible and the managers are really nice.”

On-campus jobs allow all students to assist the college and themselves. Students who wish to work in an enjoyable and flexible atmosphere can contact the Career Center at (478) 471-2714.
