On Feb. 26, the Women Studies Association held a meeting in the Student Life Center to discuss their topic on women in politics at 12:30pm. Monica Young Zook, assistant professor of English, took the liberty of informing WSA members women are important as men in our political society.

“Women’s voices are being heard now and not overlooked by society as they were in the past,” says Zook. She also stated “That is why I’m thrilled to support Senator Hillary Clinton who is running for president by voting for her.”

Senator Hillary Clinton, Democrat presidential candidate, was elected as senator for New York State in 2000; this was the first time an American First Lady ran for public office and she is the first female senator from that state. She has subsequently opposed the administration on the conduct of the Iraq War and has opposed it on most domestic issues. In the 2008 Democratic nomination race, Clinton became the first woman in U.S. history to win a statewide presidential party primary.

Dr. Heather Braun, assistant professor of English and co-advisor of WSA, is providing information for students who would like to participate or become a member in WSA. For further notice, you can contact Dr. Braun at heather.braun@maconstate.edu
