MSC Has a Twitter
Technology users rely on each other for accurate information on what is happening in the world and in their neighborhoods.
Some information presented on the internet can be onsidered valid news that is shared through different forms of communication. A few of the social forms used today are facebook, MySpace, and Twitter.
Businesses, non-profit organizations, and colleges are taking advantage of the social platforms to influence consumers and students to follow their every move. Macon State College is one of thousands of colleges that have accounts on Twitter.
Twitter is an online social networking service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, known as “tweets.”
Many of MSC’s students have Twitter accounts. Unfortunately, only few know that Macon State College (@maconstate) also has a Twitter account. “Yes, I have a Twitter account. I ‘tweet’ my thoughts throughout the day,” said Anaya Pearson.
“I didn’t know MSC had an account also, maybe they need to send that type of info through our Macon State email accounts, I would follow them,” she said. Pearson is a sophomore in the Journalism and Mass Communication field at Macon State. This type of information could potentially be valid and important for those who write news articles, blogs, and short posts for the college. Macon State gives current updates on what is happening on campus, dates for activities, and possible incentives on their Twitter account.
One of the primary purposes for creating a Twitter account is to network online. Macon State College is joining thousands of colleges in building traffic towards the school’s main website, maconstate.edu.
This brilliant idea increases the chances of MSC students to follow, while friends of students will be able to see MSC in the friend’s Follow Page.
This technique could encourage those not attending MSC a chance to see what the college has to offer for their possible needs. This social tool is transformed into a business tool with the implements of social communication. “I do think it’s a great idea that MSC is on Twitter. Letting students know on the school’s main page on the [.edu] website will definitely generate followers,” Crystal Purnell said.
Not only does the college have a Twitter page, but a couple of departments in the college have their own Twitter pages, such as the MSC Library (@msclibrary).
Here are others:
- Department of Media, Culture and the Arts (@mscmca)
- Wellness Center (@mscrecreation)
- Student Life (@MSCStudentLife)
- Student Media (@MSCStudentMedia)
